Friday, March 31, 2006
In order to understand the true essence of Muay Thai, this documentary takes us to its origin, destination Thailand. The movie highlights some of the incredible aspects of Thailand including a glimpse of the country s beautiful beaches, jungles, flavorful food, fascinating cultures, and deep spirituality. A correlation between the spiritual beliefs in Thailand, primarily Buddhism, and Muay Thai are presented.
The movie takes us to Chiang Mai to visit a Muay Thai training camp (Lanna s Muay Thai camp). The camp manger, Andy Thomson, is interviewed and explains how the camp is run, training schedules, and many key elements of Muay Thai. Pedro Villalobos, co-author of "The Fighting Strategies of Muay Thai: Secrets of Thailand's Boxing Camps", is also interviewed at the camp.
After the visit to Lanna s training camp, the movie takes us back to Lumpinee Stadium, in Bangkok, which is the most prestigious Muay Thai stadium in the world. The unique attributes of Muay Thai are displayed including the pre-fight dance rituals, the spiritual aspects, unique music, general competition rules, betting, judging, and techniques. Live fight footage at Lumpinee Stadium is covered, including highlights of a New Years Eve main Event.
Customer Review: True Muay Thai
This movie gives an excellent overview of all aspects of Muay Thai, right from the source - Thailand. The cultural and country coverage was fascinating. There is a good mix on the background and rules of the art, along with some awesome "live" fight footage. The training camp shown in the DVD seems like a great place to study the art. I hope to train there one day. More Information
